FROM FIRST QUESTION TO WRAP
Iceland can be an extraordinary place to produce — but weather, distances, access, permits and rapidly changing conditions make good local preparation essential.
We can join a project at whatever stage you need us.
Send us a treatment, moodboard, script or simply an idea of what you're looking for. We can help assess locations, logistics, timing and likely production requirements before you commit to shooting in Iceland.
For confirmed productions, NyArk can coordinate the local production from pre-production through shoot and wrap, bringing together the crew, suppliers and specialists required for each project.
WHY NYARK MEDIA?
NyArk Media is an independent, Icelandic production company founded by producer Anna Sæunn Ólafsdóttir.
Our approach is deliberately hands-on. We work with a trusted network of crew, suppliers, location contacts and creative professionals throughout Iceland, building the local production around the actual needs and scale of each project.
For international partners, that means one local point of contact who understands both the creative brief and the practical realities of making it happen in Iceland.
We believe good production service should be resourceful, transparent and straightforward — with realistic budgets, clear communication and no unnecessary layers between the client and the production on the ground.
UP TO 35% PRODUCTION INCENTIVE
Iceland offers a 25–35% reimbursement of eligible production costs for qualifying film and television productions.
25% REIMBURSEMENT
Feature films, television series and documentaries can qualify for a 25% reimbursement, with no minimum spend requirement and no cap on the total reimbursement.
Applications must be submitted before production begins in Iceland, and projects must meet the applicable cultural and production criteria.
35% REIMBURSEMENT
Larger productions can qualify for an increased 35% reimbursement when all of the following conditions are met:
Production costs incurred in Iceland are at least ISK 350 million
The project has at least 30 working days in Iceland, including a minimum of 10 shooting days
At least 50 crew members work directly on the project for a minimum of 50 working days, with applicable salaries and contractor payments taxed in Iceland
Qualifying children's and youth productions may also receive the 35% reimbursement without the minimum spend requirement applicable to larger productions.
THE 80% RULE
If more than 80% of the production's total costs are incurred in Iceland, the reimbursement may be calculated on eligible production costs incurred throughout the European Economic Area (EEA), Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
Commercials, music videos, short films, news content and certain other forms of production are not eligible for the scheme.
NyArk can help international producers understand the Icelandic production environment and connect projects with the appropriate resources for the reimbursement application process.
For full eligibility requirements and current regulations, visit Film in Iceland, the official Iceland Film Commission.
